Lady Sings The Blues! Billie Holiday - I'll Be Seeing You

Remember in the 90's when Clueless was your favorite movie?  Well maybe not yours but defintely mine!!! I watched that over and over!!!!  Every time i listen to Billie Holiday i'm reminded of the scene where Cher thinks Billie Holiday is a man!  "Do you like Billie Holiday?"  "O, I love him!"  HaHaha makes me laugh every time!!

Today's Throwback Thursday is Billie Holiday's "I'll Be Seeing You."  Probably one of my top favorites from her.  No one in the world can sound like her!  Her voice is so smooth and soft, a lady who can defintely sing the blues! I could listen to it all day,  puts me in a relaxed  mood making me wish i was transported back to the 40's!

While deciding on this song for today, i thought back to when it was used in the dancing scene from The Notebook.  Awesome movie scene and hands down an amazing movie!!!  Where's my Noah?! I think i have to go home and watch it tonight!  It's been too long!!!

I need a time machine that will send me to different musical era's!  Just to go to a party, hang out for a day, anything!  Well, a girl can dream right?!  Such a romantic song for the hopeless romantic in me forever! oye... lol

It's A Girl Thing..... Robyn - Dancing On My Own

I've recently found a new show to watch now that it's become my most dreaded time of year, the time when all my TV shows end for the summer....  Girls on HBO is yes a little bit strange and sometimes a bit too much truth of my genreations relationship games lol, but i can't seem to stop watching.

Hannah, the main character, is in a way trying to find herself after graduating college and entering the real world.  A funny/strange journey of her and her friends and their many distorted relationships.

While watching an episode the other night, Hannah finds herself a bit depressed with weird boy troubles.  The end scene is of her in her room trying to decide what to tweet.  She's listening to a sappy love song and as she's trying to decide what to tweet, she changes the song.  The song that comes on is the one above, "Dancing On My Own" by Robyn.  Slowly Hannah starts to move, she finally tweets something and then starts to dance to cheer herself up.  I love when a song can do that!  Here you are, depressed, angry, whatever and then a song comes on that just kinda speaks to you and starts to make you forget what was bothering you.  Dancing becomes your remedy!  Guys... it's a girl thing... you woudln't understand! HaHa

I loved Robyn when i was younger, knowing that she can come back years later and can still give me something to dance to is awesome!  Dance yourself into a better mood!!!

A Suprising Twist! John Mayer - Shadow Days

Oooo John Mayer, you  never stop suprising me!!!  Pop to Rock, back to Pop, then to a Classic Blues/Rock!

I was excited to hear that Mayer was coming out with his 5th album, anticipating for months now!!  Even with all his media crazed bullshit, i will always say that i have loved and will love everything he comes out with.  I know a lot of people cut him down and out with all that's been happening media wise but you do have to admit that the boy's extremely talented!

Growing up as a child listening to CSNY and Neil Young, i'd say i've grown accustom and maybe a bit partial to the "Classic Rock/Blues" genre.  Good old rock 'n' roll has always been my favorite.  I always say that they don't make music like they used to...and well they don't!!  So you could expect my delight when this album reminds me of old CSNY, Allman Brothers and a lil After The Gold Rush of Neil Young!!

I found out that an added bonus of David Crosby and Graham Nash harmonizing on the track "Born and Raised."  How aswesome is that??!!  There is not one song that i would skip over on Born and Raised!!

"Shadow Days"  Featured above is the new single but there is everything from your Country type rock (Allman Brothers style) "Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey" to your slower ballad of pure cuteness (Love Is A Verb....Wedding Song for girls across the nation!)  Let the over playing of this album begin! Till i'm sick of it that is...

A Perfect Little Weekend! The Black Keys - Gold On The Ceiling

What a great way to spend the weekend... with The Black Keys!  This Saturday I took my first adventure down to Atlantic City to catch The Black Keys concert at the Revel!  They were amazing live!!  I already wouldn't mind becoming a groupie to follow them from concert to concert!

The song above is off their latest album El Camino, it's called "Gold On The Ceiling."  Some friends that came to the concert had never heard of the Black Keys and were not too sure if they were diggin' their music.... I told them to give it a chance because they are such a great live band!  Well needless to say, they loved them!!  My musical genius shown through again! lol

I've also included a couple of photos from the fun night we had! Plus my own little clip!!

RIP Queen of Disco....The Donna Summer Special - Bad Girls

Today's Throwback Thursday is short and sweet, dedicated to The one and only Queen of Disco, Donna Summer.  Sadly, Summers passed away today at the age of 63.  A pure talent of the disco age with hits like "Hot Stuff", "Last Dance" and my personal favorite featured today "Bad Girls."

Summers will defintely be missed and so will her funky music! HaHa
P.S. this video is crazy amazing!!!  Boy did the girl have some style! Check out those shades!

Yaaayy Joe B!!!! Joe Bonamassa - Further on up the Road (Featuring Eric Clapton)

I fully believe that this man has magic fingers!  Last night I went to see Joe Bonamassa with my father at Count Basie! (Or as we joke around and call him "Joe B") Such a privilege to see such great talent.... I would even put him on the same lines as Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page.  The way he plays is unbelivable!!!

The whole time during the show we kept looking at each other saying, "how is he doing that??!!"  It literally sounds like a five piece band coming out of his 1 guitar!  As Joe was greeting the crowd, he had said how after coming out with 13 albums he has yet to have a hit song!  I couldn't believe it!! Someone with that type of talent starting at the age of 12 when he opened for BB King!

Bonamassa said the first song he learned to play in full was "Further On Up The Road."  He got to play that song along with a long time idle, Eric Clapton at The Royal Albert Hall.  That video id featured above, along with my own video from last night of his acoustic guitar solo!  Guess what Joe ended the concert with last night.... Whole Lotta Love!  If anyone was meant to play Zeppelin or atleast try to replicate Page, he's the man to do it!

Let Joe B give you an education in Blues and Rock 'n' Roll!!

Song Of The Weekend! Talking Heads - This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)

Song of the weekend? Yea.. it consisted of this one on repeat!  I don't know if any of you do this but sometimes when i discover or rediscover a song i like to listen to it non-stop!  I can pretty  much keep it on repeat and not get sick of it.... weird i know.

My weekend melody was "This Must Be The Place" by Talking Heads.  What a great band they are!! Yes, very strange indeed but super talented!!  This song has such an 80's funky beat that;s just addicting.  I don't think i've really disliked anything they've put out!  The album is entitled Speaking In Tongues and it has so many awesome tracks!
  1. Burning Down The House *****
  2. Making Flippy Floppy
  3. Girlfriend Is Better ***
  4. Slippery People ****
  5. I Get Wild/Wild Gravity
  6. Swamp **
  7. Moon Rocks ***
  8. Pull Up The Roots ***
  9. This Must Be The Place *****
As true Talking Heads style, I can't really figure out what is happening in this music video... maybe it's supposed to remain a mystery!

Maverick & Goose All The Way!! BERLIN - Take My Breath Away

If you are a fellow Top Gun lover like myself, you will definitely appreciate today's pick!  Glee did a version of this song the other night in their prom episode and i thought, "ooo the song from Top Gun! I love this song!"  For sure an appropriate choice for today's Throwback Thursday!

"Take My Breath Away" by the group Berlin off their album Count Three & Pray was an 80's smash hit!  I'm sure it helped that it was the title "love track" from the popular 1986 cult classic, Top Gun.  oo the days when Tom Cruise wasn't weird and creepy yet...OOO Maverick and Goose! A classic I watch regularly.

Yes the song is cheesy and full of every couple's wedding song glory, but who dosn't love it?!? Even just a little??!!  The music video showing scenes from the movie is my favorite part!!!  Take a trip down 80's memory lane and enjoy!

Makes Ya Wanna Throw A Party! Neon Trees - Moving In The Dark Lyrics

Ok... so today's video is kind of a bummer, well atleast i think so!  I couldn't find a decent video for this awesome tune!!! Well friends, this is gonna have to do cuz i'm diggin' this song today!!

I fell in love with Neon Trees with a song that most of you would recognize..."Animal" which is off their debut album Habits.  A great mix of indie rock with and old new wave sound!  The kind of music that makes you get up and dance, maybe even wanna throw a party, get crazy! lol.
More and more i find myself becoming an avid fan of that dance-rock genre of music... does this mean i'm growing up a bit musically?! One will never know for certain!

Anyway... Neon Trees new album entitled Picture Show, has a great energetic, fun feel to it!  My favorite song so far is "Moving In The Dark" (which i've featured above for your listening pleasure!), but "Everrybody Talks" is pretty sweet as well.  So check out this album and don't miss out on some of my other favorites....

Starting today with a new effort of eating a lot better than i have been and maybe taking a run on a more regular occasion.... this song has defintely been getting me in the mood, the mood to do just that!

Lately when i do go for a run i love running to this song...like literally i keep it on repeat! A Rosie Palm, That Is..... Jackson Browne - Rosie

O Jackson Browne... how clever of you!
Most people don't know this, and if you're an avid Jackson Browne fan like myself i was shocked to find out the certain meaning to this very song!

The song is off Browne's live album Running On Empty, "Rosie" or as most people refer to it "Another Great Song About Masturbation."  I loved the song from the first time i heard it while wearing out my copy of this live album. Later in life when my mother told me what it was really about, I couldn't believe it!  I swore she was lying, trying to trick me!  NOPE, once i studied the lyrics i learned she was telling the straight up truth!!

The song was recorded backstage in '77 at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.  Browne's great way of describing the band's sound mixer falling in love with a girl he meets at a concert.  Needles to say the girl falls for the drummer and leaves him behind...but he still has good ole Rosie (Rosie Palm, that is)!! Haha.  Listen to the lyrics of the song if you have no idea what i'm talking about!  Such a classic!!! I love this song!!
No favorites to this album because I love every single song, defintely one of my top ten favorite live albums!!

Happy Friday!

Who Knows.....The Who - Eminence Front

Ah yes, I can't even put into words how much I love todays Throwback Thursday!!  Everyone's gotta love The Who, but most people love their early stuff.  Who wouldn't with such greatness as My Generation and without a doubt Tommy!!! And, I totally agree to this statement but my favorite Who song comes off the groups 10th studio album!  Yes TENTH.
Now before you go and say, "The 80's Who...really"  just wait a second and listen to this song!  "Eminence Front" off the album It's Hard, is such a kick ass song!!!

I grew up watching Miami Vice.... My parents loved the show and the night i was born, it was actually playing on the hospital TV! haha.  The first time i ever heard this song i instantly thought of Miami Vice.  It defintely should have been the theme song, well atleast the very begining of it with whatever that 80's techno beat is!

I must say that the album version of this song is much better and it's ten times better when played extremely loud, in your car, windows down!  Who knows what the songs even about... Pete Townshend can't even explain it - he just says, It's Hard.  (Get it?!?!) LOL.

A Tasty Treat! Norah Jones - Happy Pills

I've always classified Norah Jones with a certain "type" of music.  You know.... the slow, downtempo, easy listening that always sounds the same. Great but always the same, but that's like hating Ice Cream for being so delicious every time you eat it!

Her brand new fifth album is a refreshing new twist on the Norah we all grew to love over the years!  The album is called Little Broken Hearts and the new favorite song featured above is "Happy Pills."  A type of bubblegum tune that has a uptempo, feel good beat.  Reminds me a little of The Pretenders "Brass In Pocket" and definitely not in a bad way!!  Songwriting/collaberating with Brian Burton (Danger Mouse) has given her sound a little more bluesy rock 'n' roll this time around!  This new album is surely packed with goodies! (don't worry good ole Norah fans, there is still that traditional Norah Jones sound still in there!)

  1. Good Morning **:)
  2. Say Goodbye ***:)
  3. Little Broken Hearts **:)
  4. She's 22 **:)
  5. Take It Back **:)                                        *Check these out!!!!!
  6. After The Fall ***:)
  7. 4 Broken Hearts **:)
  8. Travelin' On ***:)
  9. Out On The Road ****:)
  10. Happy Pills ****:)
  11. Miriam
  12. All A Dream ***:)
