Thank You Rolling Stone, Thank You!!!! Justin Townes Earle - Look the Other Way

I love Rolling Stone Magazine... not just because i love music so much but because i love reading their music review section.  The range of music they cover lets me experiment with  music i normally wouldnt ever find.  This morning while on my daily browse of the review section i came across Justin Townes Earle.

The song featured above is off his 4th LP, Nothings Gonna Change The Way You Feel About Me Now.  Shown here is the song "Look The other Way,"  this album is great!  Such easy listening with a fine mix of a great horn section, a taste of The Black Keys and good ole southern blues.  The album from start to finish is wonderful, so fresh!  Rolling Stone gave it 3 1/2 stars, i give it 4!!
  1. Am I That Lonely Tonight?
  2. Look The Other Way
  3. Nothing's Gonna Change The Way You Feel About Me Now
  4. Baby's Got A Bad Idea *****:) WOW!
  5. Maria
  6. Down on The Lower East Side
  7. Won't Be The Last Time
  8. Memphis In The Rain
  9. Unfortunately, Anna
  10. Movin' On
  11. Automobile Blues
I know i usually pick favorites of the album but i love them all so much I couldn't just stick with a few!!
Please give this album a listen! It is delicious! HaHa

Today's classic is from the original soundtrack, "Treat Her Like A Lady" by The Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose.  Definitely the epitome of groovy 70's funk!  The whole Anchorman soundtrack is packed full of great 70's tracks such as "Ride Captain Ride", "Sunshine (Go Away Today)", "Groovy Situation", "Use Me" and of course "Afternoon Delight"!

My Time Has Finally Come!!! Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run

ATTENTION!  This just in....my long time dream of seeing Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band live is finally coming true!!!! That's right!! Close friends of ours, or as i call them my aunt and uncle ;), just informed me that they got tickets to see The Boss live in Boston on Monday night!!!  I almost had a heartattack at work!

Growing up in Jersey, it is rare when someone IS NOT a Brue fan....He's a hometown favorite! I grew up listening to him since before i could remember.  I think of him, i think of my childhood.  (I mean c'mon...he's The Boss!)
I've never been to Boston and i've never seen Bruce live... this is sure to be an excititng start to my week!! (Skipping work to take a short roadtrip with my mom ain't to shabby either!) *wish Dad was coming :(*

I know that yesterday was my first official "Throwback Thrusday" and today is Friday with a bit of an oldie, but with this exciting news i couldn't resist!!!  I had a difficult time choosing what Bruce song to post.... when i came across "Born To Run" i knew that was it!

This song makes me think of summer and singing along loudly to it with firends!  Now it's time to check off another great band seen live in concert from my concert bucket list! Happy Friday!

Best Buds Reunited!!! Here Comes My Girl - Tom Petty and The heartbreakers

So I've been trying to think of fun ways to spice up my musical blog.  I want a way to blog about new music as well as the classics.  Alright my few but true followers....(que the drumroll)...... I've decided to start "Throwback Thursdays!"  - Awesome, yes i know!

I will try every Thursday to pick a fantastical oldie but goodie to blog about!!  I hope i can stick to this challenge...with work and life in general it is tough to post everyday but i love it so!
Today's first official "Throwback Thursday" is dedicated to my best bud Kate Murphy!! Today she is home visiting from sunny California!!! So excited to have her back on the right coast!!  Since our love for Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers is strong and bonds us together, I've chose "Here Comes My Girl" for today's throwback.  Quite fitting i think.... HaHa.
This classic is from the groups breakthrough 1979 album "Damn The Torpedoes." Love The Heartbreakers and how they have proven to stay strong through the years.  Always my go to band to bring up my spirits!  I don't think they've created anything i didn't like!

Yaay The Hunger Games!! Taylor Swift & The Civil Wars - Safe and Sound

My mother convinced me to read The Hunger Games a while ago, and boy did i became quite the avid fan!!!  I seem to love trilogy's or books with many sequels lately... Twilight and Harry Potter for example.

I have finished all the books and now.... i'm super excited to see the movie which comes out this weekend!!!  Today they released the movie soundtrack!  I wasn't sure what to expect but i really, really like it!  So many different artists came together to create this lengthy album.  Defintely packed with more than enough for everyone to enjoy, 16 songs to be exact!!  Some movies have the potential to pull off having a great soundtrack.  It dosn't happen often but when it does it's great!  I find it makes me fall even more in love with the film if i love the soundtrack.
Garden State, 500 Days of Summer, all the Twilight movies just to name a few of my favorites.  Above is my favorite... of course from my girl T. Swift and The Civil Wars! Love them.  The song is called "Safe and Sound"  it is a really cute song!

Check it out! And if you havn't picked up a copy of the Hunger Games like everyone else in the US... Get On It!!!

Regina Spektor - Us

Today is the kind of day where a certain tune is stuck in my head and no matter how many times i keep singing it....it's still there!!!!  So instead of fighting it i might as well try blogging it!!!
"Us" by Regina Spektor from her third album Soviet Kitch ( had to put the cover above since i find it so funny! ) is a great album.

When i first experienced Regina Spektor, i thought she was a bit strange...well yes, she is a bit strange.  The more i listen to her the more in love i become.  I first heard this song in the movie 500 Days of Summer.  Such a great song!  Since it is stuck in my brain today, maybe i can get it stuck in yours!!

Back For Round Two!! The Ting Tings - Hang It Up

Back for round two.... The Ting Tings strick back with a powerful second album.  The album is entitled Sounds From Nowheresville ( sweet album title! ) and my album pick for the day featured above is "Hang It Up."  I first fell in love with The Ting Tings when there first album came out and i heard the song "That's Not My Name."

Needless to say i've been waiting for this second album to appear and finally here it is!!  I'm loving how this new album is blanced with a mixture of punk rock, rap and some "poppie" slower ballads.  So unique how lead singer Kate White's voice is right between a high pitched cheerleader and rapper!!

The english boy/girl duo seems to be coming back strong, and let me tell ya... i think it's better than the first time around!
Track list includes:  Kate's Picks :)
  1. Silence
  2. Hit Me Down Sonny **:)
  3. Hang It Up ****:)
  4. Give It Back***:)
  5. Guggenheim
  6. Soul Killing ****:)
  7. One By One **:)
  8. Day To Day**:)
  9. Help ***:)
  10. In Your Life
As you can see i liked too many of the songs it was hard to choose some top picks for you to listen to!!
The album starts off strong with the punk rock, rap sound with "Hit Me Down Sonny", "Hang It Up",  and "Give It Back."  Second half of the album slows down a bit with more of your pop, ballad type songs with "Help", "Day To Day", and "In Your Life."

Hope everyone enjoys!

Psychedelic Rock! Oracular Spectacular MGMT - Electric Feel

Today's album of choice is Oracular Spectacular from MGMT.  The song i featured is "Electric Feel."  Lately I seem to find myself diggin' more of the psychedelic rock, this song is defintely the reason!    When i first heard of MGMT it was at at local bar's touch tones machine.  "Time To Pretend" came on and i instantely fell in love with it.  I can understand how some people might take this album as being quite strange.... i thought so myself when i first gave it a listen.  Then I thought, "give it a chance" once i started listening to it more and more i started to get into a bunch of the songs!

This album is packed with an immense amount of good jams!  My top picks :)

  1. Time To Pretend ***:)
  2. Weekend Wars
  3. The Youth
  4. Electric Feel ****:)
  5. Kids ***:)
  6. 4th Dimensional Transition

  8. Of Moons, Birds & Monsters ***:)
  9. The Handshake
  10. Future Reflections

Memorable Weekend....Check! Jesus Christ Superstar

Thinking back today, I realized just how great this past weekend was.  Ya  know when you look back at some weekends and think, "What a fun packed weekend full of good times and good people."  Yaaaaa.... I totally just scored one of those! HaHa.
Friday night I had a fun night out with the Fam.  We took time out of our busy schedules to get together and went to Joe's Crab Shack.  None of us had ever been there before, and WOW what great food and great times we had!  Makes  me realize how great my family is and how much fun we can have together.  Makes me feel lucky to have that kind of relationship with them.
Saturday my mother and I went into NYC to see Jesus Christ Superstar on Broadway. (Which we have been dying to see for the last month) Aside from getting extreme motion sickness on the bus ride there....eek, Hands down THE BEST SHOW we have ever seen on Broadway.  We laughed, we cried, and we sang!  O and P.S. I've already purchased tickets to see it again in 2 weeks.... some things are too good in life to pass up!  You only live once right?
That same night i went out with some really fun friends in Asbury and had a great time dancing and being goofy!  Love Them!
Sunday was spent adjusting to the time change and catching up on my TV shows!
So today i share with you not 1 but 2 clips of JC Superstar!!! The first being "What's The Buzz" from the 1973 film of JC Superstar that was made.  The second is a montage i found of the Shakespear Theater Company.  Most of the cast in this is now performing it on Broadway. Pretty much the exact show we saw on Saturday.  This ofcourse does not do it much justice, YA GOTTA BE THERE!!!

Thought i'd also include some fun photos from the weekend!  Have a Happy Week!!

Unison Yell Singing...Is there even such a thing?! Fun - We Are Young

While watching Glee a couple weeks ago i came across this song that they did on the show. Yes.... i'm an avid Glee watcher!!! Don't hate! HaHa.

The band is called Fun ( How fun is that?!?! ). The song featured in today's post is "We Are Young" which is off thier album Some Nights. The first thing i noticed while listening to this new album find was all of the unison background singing....yes exactly like what you would hear while out drinking with friends when your favorite jam comes on, all of you "yell singing" if you get what i mean. (For examples check out "We Are Young" and "Carry On.")

The band's sound is something similar of Queen, minus the face paint and platforms. A rock 'n' roll/pop sound. Definitely the album i want playing in my car on a night out with friends! Lead singer Nate Ruess can sure belt out some powerful screams! The song featured above is so much fun, makes me think of fun summer nights out with good people just havin' a grand ol' time.

Recommended Favorites **:) Some Nights, We Are Young, Carry On, All Alone, All Alright.

Just bought this album and O BOY what a girl crush do i have!!!
Grace Potter and The Nocturnals is an awesome chick rock band!! Ok, well it's not a total chick band so don't get all judgemental just yet!  There are some cute long haired rocker boys in this band, only 2 chicks i swear!

The music video i picked for today is "Paris (Ooh La La)" by Grace Potter and The Nocturnals.  The video is from when the group performed live at Bonnaroo 2011, Loving her dress too!!!!  She has such cute style!.  I need to go back to Bonnaroo!!! Any trip takers???!!! HaHa.  Wish i was there to see this awesome performance!!  This rocker chicks voice is RI - DONK - ULOUS!!! The whole album is pretty rad, with a mixture of good ole sounding rock, a lil splash of a country sound with some cool lyrics!  Reminds me a bit of Janis Joplin and a lil Bonnie Raitt.  Listed below is the track list off the bands latest self titled album, with ofcourse my recommended favorites** :)

Take A Listen Why Don't Cha! Miike Snow - Silvia

O how i've become obsessed with Miike Snow!  I  just recently got my hands on a copy of his self titled, debut album "Miike Snow" from 2009.

Let me tell you..... I may be a little delayed on my discovery of how awesome this album is but it IS pretty freakin' amazing!  I can't really describe what i love most about the album or Miike himself (Maybe the super sweet way he spells his name with 2 I's?  I now want my name to appear as Kaate! HaHA).

His sound definitely has a slight techno sound to it, which i'll admit i was not diggin' at first.  I'm a lover of all kinds of music, but i do find it hard to appreciate techno.  I just can't seem to get a feel for it no matter how hard i try!  Miike Snow adds something to it that makes me forget after a minute or two that it is actually techno with an electric beat.  Maybe it's his sweet, low voice or his clever way of taking a dance/rock/indie song and adding just enough techno sound where it does not offend! LoL.  I don't know how he did it, but i can't seem to get tired of listening to this album.

I find myself loving every track on it!  "Animal" (DEFINITELY!!), "Song For No One", Black & Blue", "Plastic Jungle", and the song above "Silvia."  If you hear yourself saying, "Nope, not into this." Or "This girl has no idea what she's talking about."  JUST HOLD YOUR HORSES!  Please do me a favor, go back to what you did in highschool when you got a new album. Go to your room, just you alone with the music and just listen.  And not just 1 song listen to all of them, then tell me what you think.

Enjoy Music!
