The Soundtrack Of Your Life Day 6

The Soundtrack Of Your Life Day 6

Times have been rough around here lately, hence my little absense from blogging.  Hurricane Sandy hit my home town and my family to the point of destruction.  Days just seemed to pass for 2 weeks or so.  With no concept of time it just kept feeling like groundhog day, the morning of Tuesday October 30th was on repeat.

While wondering around like a zombie....the thoughts and feelings of "Did this just really happen?" "Am I dreaming?" "Why us?" "This could never happen here."  all played through my families heads as well as many others around us.  When we finally did get electric and TV back it was shocking to see the destruction, things like gas lines, telethon's and commercials about making donations to the "Hurricane Sandy Relief" just seemed unreal, something i still can't grasp.

This song came on during one of the many groundhog days.  Listening to the lyrics just seemed to make the whole situation hit home, make sense in a way.  This did happen, we lost everything, what do we do now? But i came to realize that we will rebuild, we will get through this, we have eachother and so much love and support from everyone around us.

At first it was hard to pull  myself out of the sadness, but i realized it was ok to cry and to be sad but it was also ok to laugh and smile too.  To us it was life changing, to others it was even worse.  I keep thinking that i have to think of the glass half full, material things may have vanished and weakened our hope and faith but i still have my family and others do not.

Track 6 goes to Coldplay with "Fix You."  A truely sad but powerful song.

"When the tears come streaming down your face, when you loose something you can't replace.
Lights will guide you home and ignite your bones and i will try to fix you."

With every passing day things get a little easier, life will keep rolling on and all of this will be a sad, tragic memory.  We will never forget and we will always remember.

The Soundtrack Of Your Life Day 5

The Soundtrack Of Your Life Day 5

Oh how i miss Biggie!!!!  This song is such a classic.  Rap music today is all the same, full of cursing, half naked girls and lyrics full of words and phrases i don't even like to hear myself singing outloud even while i'm by myself!

I love to dance.... nights out dancing and laughing with friends are my favorites!  If i'm feeling down or just plain ol' UGH, i can go out dancing and i instantly feel better not to mention burning and sweatin' off those calories! BOOYa!

Track 5 goes to "Juicy" by The Notorious B.I.G.  Defintely my go to song that i love to turn up and shake it to!  When this comes on i can sing every word while droppin' it like it's hot! HaHa!!!  I've alaways been a  hip hop/rap dancing kinda girl... give me some classic 90's rap and i'm good to go... sorry techno/club dance music, you're just not for me! No Jersey Shore here!

The Soundtrack Of Your Life Day 4

The Soundtrack Of Your Life Day 4

Am i really only on song 4 of this soundtrack?!?!  Too many song options and not enough album space!

Track 4 goes to Imagine Dragons!  Love this band!!!  "It's Time" i first heard on an episode of Glee, went into itunes and discovered this band.... every time i hear this song now i can't help but get that feeling of motivation.  Corny yes, i know, but hey! I've always been a cheese ball at heart!!  These type of "stay strong" and "be you" kinda songs always have that effect.

You know just another song on the ol' soundtrack for the memorable moments, accomplishments and milestones of my life montage.... and well just cause i like it!

Happy hump day

The Soundtrack Of Your Life Day 3

The Soundtrack Of Your Life Day 3

Anyone that knows me well enough knows that 1, i'm crazy about Led Zeppelin and 2, Almost Famous is my all time favorite movie.  Last night while laying in bed trying to fall asleep....channel surfing led me to Almost Famous on HBO!!!!  I really should just make the Almost Famous soundtrack the soundtrack to MY life since it's simply amazing! Prejudice much?! HaHa

I've always had this feeling that once i was introduced to Led Zeppelin, musically my life has never been the same!  This is what real rock 'n' roll is all about.  Talk about a band that has everything... from Robert Plants vocals to Jimmy Page's double necked guitar!  Not to mention slick cool John Paul Jones and the drumming magical mad man John Bonham.  Hands down the best rock band to date!  They don't make 'em like that anymore!

"Music, you now, true music - not just rock n roll - it chooses you. It lives in your car, or alone listening to your headphones, you know, with the vast scenic bridges and angelic choirs in your brain. It's a place apart from the vast, benign lap of America."  Words of wisdom, which brings me to my 3rd selection for the album.....

Track 3 goes to "Tangerine" by Led Zeppelin.  It was tough picking just one from them... might have to add another down the road.  a song with chords and lyrics of pure musical genius!!!  A song you can turn on, light a candle, sit in the dark and just feel for even a minute that you're right there along with the band.  Maybe i'm being too deep but i guess that's what being truly into the music is all about.  The thought that a band can take you over mind, body and soul.  That is defintely what Zeppelin does to me!

The Soundtrack Of Your Life Day 2

The Soundtrack Of Your Life....

I recently got hyped on this band while seeing them open for Eric Huitchinson in New York.  Such an impressive band, even better live!  I mean how can you not fall in love with a band that has a xylophone?!? I mean really! Blown away!

I blogged about this band a couple months ago and even though i can go on for days telling you how i love every song on their album (which i do), this song has to be my favorite.  A great pick for my life soundtrack, i think... this song could be a great roadtrip montage song, maybe a mind getaway song for some deep thoughts in life lolol, more or less a song to encourage you to just let it all go and escape from life for a bit if you need to.  Cause lets just admit, everyone at some point needs to....
"throw our cellphones out of the window yelling at the city goodbye we won't miss you."

Track 2 goes to Avalanche City, one of my favorite new bands this year!! "Drive On" off thier debut album not even available in the US yet (I had to buy it off amazon, which i highly reccomend you do), Our New Life Above The Ground.  A band with great sound, lyrics and for sure a bit of fun!  Solid choice for my album... could have this one on repeat for a while....

~Penny Lane
(P.S. the decision  making process of choosing tracks for this little project.... NOT AN EASY ONE MY FRIENDS! If i'm not careful i'll end up with an album a million tracks long!)

The Soundtrack Of Your Life Day 1

Soundtrack Of Your Life....

All of you at some point in time have thought, "If my life was a movie, what would my soundtrack be?"
Everyone has dreamed about having some sort of soundtrack of music playing along in the background of every landmark moment in their life, whether it be an epic party, a memorable family moment, an awesome achievement, crazy nights out, romance, heartbreak.... well, you get the point.

It's almost as if for a second you're looking through your life with a slideshow of awesome pictures and videos along with a rad musical score.  I'll admit, (even if some of you won't) certain fun, unforgetable moments I wonder what it would feel like to have that certain prefect song i'm thinking about just magically start playing......

Well my friends i'm going to do a little experiment, well maybe not an experiment but I did came up with this magical lil idea on the drive to work..... if I were to create a soundtrack, a compilation if you will, of songs that I would want to forever play throughout moments or times of my life what would they be?!?!

Well, throughout the next week or two, or however long it takes HaHa... every day i am going to put up a song to add to "My Soundtrack".  From now until my album is complete, every song i post will be a song i want on my life playlist!

Track 1 goes to the dancing machine himself James Brown! (just watch those moves!!)  "Get Up Off That Thing" is such an intoxicating jam.  When i'm feeling low and need a pick me up, or just in the mood to dance (which is a lot) i want this song to come on.  This could even be wedding montage material.... great song!

What would some of your soundtrack's songs be?!?!

O What I Would Give To See This Man In Concert! Van Morrison - Sweet Thing

Yes, when it comes to music i consider myself an old soul at heart.  Maybe it's my exceptional musical taste or maybe it's my awesome parents just bringin' me up right! HaHa.  My parents LOVE Van Morrison, especially my mother,  hence why I myself am probably addicted.

I've been listening to a lot of Van lately and came across this awesome jam.  "Sweet Thing" is off the album Astral Weeks.  A romantic soft ballad that has the type of tune to make you wanna listen again and again.  If i had to pick a favorite Van Morrison song...well i just don't know!  So many classic hits.  This live version of the song i found is soooo good! (Especially Van's little harmonica sess!).

I love when you kinda forget about a song, ya hear it and it's just like hearing it again for the first time.  That little smile spreads across you lips and you think....God, how could i have gone so long without listening to this!

What is your favorite Van Morrison song?!!

An Ode To One Of My Favorite Places!! Twistin the night away - Sam Cooke

Sam Cooke's "Twistin The Night Away" came on Pandora this morning, and as i was singing along.. i realized it perfectly describes my lovely weekend trip i'm about to take to Long Lake, NY!!!

"Let me tell you 'bout a place
                                      somewhere up-a New York way
where the people are so gay
                                      twistin the night away-ay
here they have a lot of fun
                                      puttin' trouble on the run
man, you find the old and young
                                      twistin the night away."

Man, such a great song!  If you know me at all, you know i'm such a sucker for some good Motown...(Thanks Mama ;))!!  Sometimes i wish songs today could be just as simple and carefree... lyrics were straight and to the point, everything we sung about was happy, cheerful, just "twistin the night away!"  Simpler times call for simpler songs i guess.  Great tune for a Friday and a lil short Weekend trip into the wild!

Giddy Like A School Girl!!!!! The Avett Brothers & Band Of Horses!

Could a girl really get THIS lucky??!!  Today I just purchased 2 new albums from 2 of my favorite bands!  Band of Horses with Mirage Rock and The Avett Brothers with The Carpenter!!!  I'm so excited! Literally just  made my day!!!  With this happy happy day i have also made my self a new new years mission.... MUST GO AND SEE BOTH THESE BANDS IN 2013!!!!  These are concerts that must be checked off the ol' bucket list!

I have pretty much purchased every album these bands have produced and have yet to be unsatisfied!  First, Band of Horses with "Knock Knock" - Great, fresh album! A happy refreshing sound of Indie Rock and Classic Rock ballads.  Ben Bridwell never dissapoints on lead vocals. <3 class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Love how they can have albums filled with a more somber feel, love ballad after love ballad then go to an album filled with happy upbeat Indie Rock hits.  Still they can keep what their fans love most about them, that special something that makes them click! Keeps me comin' back for  more.

Second, Avett Brothers with "The Once and Future Carpenter" - An album that takes them back to the begining, good ol' Avett Brothers!  With their last album I and I Love You some loyal fans were not too happy,  the sound came off too main stream andpeople thought they lost that bluegrass sound which everyone had grown to love about them.  Have no fear!  The new album has a mixture of both!  The Indie Rock mixes just right with enough Bluegrass to take them back to their roots!  Sounds just like the good old days!

It may not be Two for Tuesday around here but i was so giddy i just couldn't resist!!!  So much new music a girl could just die of happiness over here!

Enjoy the music~

Let The Lyrics Do The Talking! The Temper Trap - Trembling Hands

What a pretty little song!
If you love music as much as i do then you know exactly what i'm talking about!  It goes like this!  You hear a song, get hooked; You buy the album, get hooked; You fall in love with the band, get hooked; then you start to think, "I can't wait for their next album!  I hope it's just like the first, well it doesn't have to be just like it but i hope i love it just the same!"  Musical worshipers know what i mean!  The dreaded moment when you wonder if your beloved band will deliver with their second album...

I'm here to tell you its ok to have these doubting thoughts run through your mind.... some bands throw out an amzing debut album and then totally choke or change their sound for the sophmore album!! a.k.a MGMT.... UGH!  Well i'm thanking my lucky stars today that it never happened to The Temper Trap!!!!

Temper Trap's new album, "The Temper Trap" is so fresh and so good ooooo!!!  Above is the title track off their second self titled album, "Trembling Hands."  Love Love this song!! Such touching, soulful lyrics!
                    "So throw me a line
                     somebody out there help me
i'm on my own, i'm on my own
                     throw me a line
                     afraid that i've come here
                     to win you again
                     with trembling hands
                     passion delays
                     looking over the buildings
                     town seems to starve"

Some favorites include:  "Need Your Love," "Leaving Heartbreak Hotel," "Never Again," "Miracle,"
I love when a band suprises you ;)

How About A Mid-Week Pick Up?! Wilson Pickett - Land Of 1000 Dances

Not only is Wilson Pickett's "Land of 1,000 Dances" my favorite song on Just Dance, it's also on of my go to songs to put a lil kick in my step!

I went for a run early this morning, felt that the day was off to a pretty good start and then made the mistake of falling back asleep watching the news...  Now... I'm draggin!  So at work this morning, sucking back my coffee in hopes of a instant boom of energy, i thought of this song!

Once i played Wilson Pickett on Pandora i noticed myself picking up a bit!  It's only 10am!! I need all the energy i can get, i'm going to a Giants game tonight!! Woot Woot!  Leave it to Wilson Pickett to brighten up my day!

If anyone else needs a Wednesday boost of energy, well i hope Wilson can help!

The Otis Itch!!!! Otis Redding - These Arms Of Mine

I seem to have the "Otis Itch" and I can't scratch it!!!

I tend to find myself going through musical type fads lately... well i guess everyone gets those but ya know what i mean, like that blouse or that pair of shoes you wear constantly!  You can't get enough of it, it goes with everything, its comfortable and cool... well that has been happening with my man Otis Redding a lot lately!  His Pandora station has been invading my ears 24/7.

I get to work this morning with all good intensions of breaking this little obsession i've been on, turn on my Pandora and hit shuffle.... guess what today's first song was... yup! you guessed it, Otis!  "These Arms Of Mine" came on and 'SNAP' just like that i was pulled back ever so quickly into my Otis Redding fad!!!

Now i'm not complaining... it could be worse, a lot worse.  I could have some obnoxious band playing over and over again in  my head that would eventually drive me crazy!  So I thought, "Hell, if i can't break my Otis fad i might as well get everybody else on that train as well!!"

Happy Friday - enjoy your musical fad of the day, week or month, whatever it might be!

Falling From Cloud Nine...Katy Perry - Wide Awake

Hellllooooooo!  I'm back!  London was amazing and even though i'm terribly sad it's over, it's time to get back to reality....  For some reason today i got this Katy Perry song stuck in my head.  I must have listened to it a hundred times and guess what, it's still there on replay!

"Wide Awake" by Katy Perry is the song in my head today and In a way the song kinda realates to coming home from my trip... "Falling from cloud nine, crashing from the high, letting go tonight, falling from cloud nine.  I'm wide awake."  Yup wide awake and back to reality from my amazing journey.  Met so many cool new people, new friends and great experiences that i will have forever!

Can I hit rewind and do it all over again?  And guess what?  I wouldn't change a single second of it!!!  Best trip of my life to date.  Gonna be hard to beat this one.

The Countdown Has Led To This! The Clash - London Calling

The ultimate countdown of 113 days since we purchased our tickets has felt like it would never come.  After months of my cousin planning her little heart out and taking care of almost everything for us.... (Love her, so much thanks - she's the best).  It has finally come down to this!  Time for us to finally kick back, relax and have a blast!  Lisa and I leave bright and early tomorrow morning!!!!!!!!
What better song to leave you all with while i take my little 12 day hiatus from the ole' blog then the official London song, "London Calling" from The Clash!

The Clash is such a great band!  I feel as if from the begining, they have been a group well ahead of their time (musically that is!), the video and hair styles are still definetly 80's.  This song is sure to clap/stomp Lisa and I right into foggy London town!!

Now signing off for a little break, I leave you with this... GO TEAM USA, ROW JAKE ROW, and don't be jealous.... we'll just be hanging out with some hot Olympic Athletes... HahahAh!!!! saaaaweeeeet!

One of The Greatest Song Lines Ever! The Rolling Stones. Satisfaction

"He can't be a man cuz he dosnt smoke the same cigarettes as me!"  Greatest song line ever!  A countodown to London just wouldn't be complete without a song from The Rolling Stones!!!

Day 3 of my mini countodwn is "Satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones.  Another great memorable band from the British Invasion that's STILL rockin'!!!  Talk about a band that can last forever!  I don't think i'll ever be able to get over a.) the screaming girls in this video or b.) Mick Jaggers dance moves! OwOw!!!

1 and a 1/2 more days till i'll be leaving on a jet plane, and all my ipod's been playing is British bands!  Am I ready?  O, i think i'm ready!!!

One of The Greatest Bands of All Time!! Led Zeppelin - Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp

Welcome back to Day 2 of my own little British Invasion!  If any of you Reaalllyyy know me, you'll know that this is one of my favorite bands!  Led Zeppelin with "Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp" is such a great song!! So full of chanting/fist pumping/clapping beats which adds to its greatness!!  I was just thinking, I need to make an amazing British Band Mix for the trip!  This way all us girls can just rock out while traveling! HaHa.

I had a very difficult time choosing a Zeppelin song for today... if i could i would just choose every song, list them all!, i love them all!  I thought i'd keep an upbeat song to get us pumped!!!

Oo and another great thing about Robert Plant... we are totally hair twins!  My fingers are crossed that I just so happen to bump into him around foggy London town....  hey, ya never know.

4 days in counting before we're off  for quite possibly the coolest experience of my life!!!  In the true olympic spirit and all of my USA pride, This week leading up to my departure I will be posting all British bands!!!

I figured we'd start things off with a little British Invasion!!  I have a ton of favorite Beatles songs but this one caught my attention today!!  "From Me To You" came out in 1964 and was defintely one of the many reasons the British Invasion became such a craze!

All i have to say is that London better be ready for our little "American Invasion"  a.k.a. Lisa and I!!!  We will be fully decked out in American gear and ready to go!

Row Jake Row!  Let's get ready for a Men's Rowing Victory!!!

What a sexy song this is! Ow,Ow! Haha.  Today's song, "Here Comes The Hotstepper by Ini Kamoze is a little bit if a dedication.  Today is my friend Kendyll's Birthday!!!! As one of my closet friends we have a lot of songs that we consider "our songs".  This has luckily become one of them.

Every time i hear this song i remember the last time she was here to visit, and what a lovely time it was!  Happy Birthday Old Lady! Now i'm not the only one that's 26!!!  Don't let the west coast steal you away forever!  Come back to me!  You, Lisa and I need to get the band back together and grow old together!!

What's In A Number Anyway??!! Rockwell - Somebody's Watching Me

What's in a number anyway? Lol 13 has always been my favorite/lucky number.  My birthday is 1/3 and while growing up riding horses i found if my show number was 13, equaled 13 or had a 3 in it... I was bound to have lucky days!

Most supersticious people hate Friday the 13th, well I love it!  It's like a whole day of luck and guaranteed good times!  As much as scary movies freak me out, I love them!  As a little kid my father and I used to watch them all the time!  Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Chucky, Halloween, etc. Classics~

So in the good ole spirit of Friday the 13th (since we don't get too many), I dedicate today's song to good old number 13!  "Somebody's Watching Me" by Rockwell is such a great song! HaHa.  If you agree, wait till you see the music video...even better!  Gosh I love the 80's.

I'm pretty sure Rockwell was a one hit wonder... but its defintely a catchy lil one hit wonder!  So bring out all your good luck charms you supersticious people... or if you're like me and LOVE days like today, enjoy the luck.

Happy Friday...Mwwahhhahahaha (que evil laugh)

He's The Man!!!! What A Fool Believes - Doobie Brothers

For years now I've always been amazed at how high Michael McDonald is able to get his voice while singing.... DAMN!  HaHa.  Gorwing up, my father was a huge Doobie Brothers fan.  For as long as I can remember Michael McDonalds voice has been a constant throughout my younger years.

I love a lot of Doobie Borthers songs but this one is up there as being close to one of my favorites.  "What A Fool Believes" by The Doobie Brothers came out in 1978 and was one of the hits from their album Minute By Minute.

This song has such a classic and contagious sound to it.  One of those songs where in the first couple of seconds it comes on....you're like, "Oooo! I love this song!"  That's exactly how i felt when i heard it this morning!  I hadn't heard it in so long, it was refreshing!

What a career Michael McDonald has had!  He began singing back-up vocals for Steely Dan!! Pretty cool right?! I actually saw Steely Dan and he was there performing with them!  Between Steely Dan, The Doobies and his solo career, the man has produced tons of hits!!

You Probably Think This Song Is About You! Carly Simon - You're So Vain

Ahhh yes, how many of you girl readers have had your own personal meaning to this very song??!!  God knows I have.  There is not enough i could say about Carly Simon... such a great voice and a great artist.  Love her!!!

"Your're So Vain" by Carly Simon is the perfect critical profile of a self-absorbed lover.
"You're so vain, you probably think this sing is about you"

The song was wildly popular when it came out in '72.  Much speculation has been brought up about who Simon wrote the song about... I don't know if we'll ever get the real answer.  It's better that way i think.  A girl should have some secrets, dont ya think?...even if it is in the form of a extremely public love song! HaHa

I love how the song is used multiple times in How To Loose A Guy In Ten Days!! So cute!  Love that movie!

"And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner, they'd be your partner!"

The Old With The New! Electric Guest - This Head I Hold

I find this video soo strange yet I just love it!  My lovely cousin Kellie introduced me to this song a week ago and I'm in love!!!!  One of those going out type of songs... haha

The group is called Electric Guest and the song is called "This Head I Hold."  Right from the first couple seconds you get this old school motown beat that fills your head, but then it's mixed in with a great current alternative dance sound.  It's like the old mixed in with the new!

The rest of the album is really good!  Please check this band out!! Addicted to this song!

Concert Love!! Eric Hutchinson -Rock & Roll

Have you ever fell in love at a concert?!  You know the feeling, there you are front row right up against the stage just dancing and singing your heart out to every song.  You become so entranced with the music that you start to believe the singer is singing straight at you and no one else....instant love.  Yup i got that concert love fever last night in NYC at an Eric Hutchinson concert!

I've been an avid Eric Hutchinson fan from the first time my friend Mary played his songs for me.  For Mary's birthday we had the privilege to see him at the Highline Ballroom!!!  Great, great show!  Such an energy he brings to the crowd, the band he played with was awesome as well!!  It's such a great feeling to go to a show where you know every word to every song and you can just have fun all night dancing and singing along!  (A musical high in a sense.)

The album above, Before I Sold Out, was a rare live album that i could not find anywhere!!!  I searched ITunes, Google, Amazon...anywhere i could and no luck... well my luck changed at the concert!  Eric announced he was selling copies of the album!!!  The album contains a live version of one of my favorite songs "Breakdown More".  The song blogged today is called "Rock & Roll" which is Mary's favorite!  Happy Birthday Girl!

Mary and I were lucky enough to wait in line after the show to have him sign my album and get the once in a lifetime chance to meet the man that we consider and musical genius!  Below is a little clip i took from the show along with some pictures!
A night to be remembered!  Concert Love!

Summer Storms!! Stormy Monday - Allman Brothers

If you were anywhere around where I live this morning, you would have noticed the crazy summer storm we experienced!  The sky was so dark that it looked like it was night time as I was driving to work!!!!  One of my favorite things about summer, crazy thunder storms!!

Today's song popped into my head as a tune fit to be quite appropriate on a day like today!!  The Allman Brothers "Stormy Monday."  Such a great classic rock jam!!!  This clip is especially awesome because guess who's helping out on guitar?!?!  Mr. Eric Clapton! Yup, the guitar god himself.  9 minutes of heaven for sure!

So enjoy your Stormy Monday with this classic!  Keep dry!!
Here are some pictures I snapped before getting caught in the rain!

Groovin' It Out!! Can I get a Witness-Marvin Gaye

Ever have one of those frustrating days?!?!?  Annoying little things bothering you? You're busy, getting asked stupid questions, and the work phone won't stop ringing.....  Well this solid gold oldie came across my pandora today and i'm not gonna lie, it made me dance a little in my chair!

Marvin Gaye's classic "Can I Get A Witness" was just the song to brighten up my day!  Once it came on i turned it up and had a lil sing along in the comfort of my lonely office!  This classic music video gave me a giggle as well!  I love all the girls just "Groovin' It Out" while Marvin sings away!

Motown.... how i wish i was alive during that era!!!  I could totally see myself on American Bandstand!! If you don't have a clue as to what American Bandstand is then we will never see eye to eye, and you be Cra Cra!! Hahha

Love Her To Death! Sara Bareilles - Gonna Get Over You

Everything Sara Bareilles puts out I seem to become istantely addicted to!!!  She only has two albums, but each one i find i can listen to from start to finish without skipping a single song!

Her music is fun, emotional, heart felt, and catchy!!! Sad songs or happy songs.  Love her voice!!!  My favorite song off this latest album, Kaleidoscope Heart would have to be "Bluebird."  No good versions of that song were on youtube so i thought i'd give you my second favorite!  The song is called "Gonna Get Over You," and I loved the beat from the very first time i heard it!  The lyrics are pretty great too! Epecially these....
"Goodbye, should be saying that to you by now, shouldn't I?
Laying down a law that i live by
                                                 Well, maybe next time."
How cute is this music video???!!!  I think i watched it about 2 or 3 times before i posted it!  Love this girl to death!  She needs to come out with another album pronto!  My new project....to see her live!

Happy Monday

That Song You Keep Hearing...Monarchs - Come On And Move Me

Ya know that song ya keep on hearing but you have no idea what it's called or who it is?  Every time you're like, "oooohhhhh! Here's that song again, who sings it? What's it called?"  I had that happen with this song for the past year.... finally, today it came across my pandora!!  I  just love when i get to experience new music!  It's like a Birthday present!

The song is "Come On And Move Me," the group is the Monarchs.  I checked out this album which is called These Words, These Frames and it's really, really good!  The lead singer is a cross between Nora Jones with a little but of Grace Potter!  "Come On And Move Me" has been stuck in my head all day!

So glad i can  now download it and buy the whole album!!!  It came out in 2009... it's about time!!
Hope you enjoy as much as I do!

O ITunes, You Know Me Too Well! The Lumineers - Ho Hey

I find it sometimes creepy how well my ITunes knows me......  I was downloading some new songs this weekend when i decided to check out the "just for you section."  My ITunes suggested i take a listen to "Ho Hey" by The Lumineeers!

Well long story short... i had it on repeat pretty much the entire weekend!  I even got my friend Kristen obsessed with it too!!!!  We can't get enough of it!!!  I checked out the rest of their album and it's pretty damn good!~  Just a little Indie Folk Rock for some mellow listening!  "Ho Hey" is such a catchy song, and pretty cute lyrics too!

Note for the future - let your ITunes select your music... it kinda knows what it's doing!

Which To Choose....Phil Collins - Against All Odds

So I've discovered that I'm pretty much obsessed with Phil Collins.  You can add Genesis in to that as well. When i decided i wanted to blog a Phil Collins song, I noticed that I had quite the difficult time choosing....  "Against All Odds it is!"

I try not to blog any Greatest Hits albums because really, to me, it isn't considered a true album.  As great as they may be, its just a complilation of many albums all rolled into usually one kick ass album.

Phil Collins is such an amazing musician!  This greatest hits album is packed with amazing classics!
  1. Another Day In Paradise
  2. True Colors
  3. Easy Lover
  4. You Can't Hurry Love
  5. Two Hearts
  6. I Wish It Would Rain Down
  7. Against All Odds
  8. Something Happened On The Way To Heavn
  9. Seperate Livesn
  10. Both Sides Of The Story
  11. One More Night
  12. Sussudio
  13. Dance Into The Light
  14. A Groovy Kind Of Love
  15. In The Air Tonight
  16. Take Me Home
Amazing, Amazing, AMAZING!!!

Just Enjoy the Awesomeness...

One More Time! Jack PeƱate - 'Have I Been A Fool'

I've posted Jack Penate before, mainly because I fell in love with the song "Pull My Heart Away"  off the album Everything Is New.  Ironically I think the universe wants me to become a huge fan because he literally is everywhere lately!!  Creepy I know....

Jack Penate seems to be invading my television, my radio and my pandora channels.  Without even realizing it, I've become obsessed with almost every single song on this album!!  The song above today is "Have I Been A Fool" off his first album, Matinee.  Such a cute song!!!  He ain't too bad on the eyes either....

A boy with an accent, yes please!  He has such a great voice and music that's full of a funky alternative sound.  British Pop at its best, every song has its own catchy beat!!  Buy this album, support Jack Penate!!! He's awesome! That is all.

It's All About A Music Video....Toni Basil - Mickey

It's all about the music video, don't ya think?!?!  HaHa!  This old 80's gem came across my pandora station this morning and i instantly thought back to the first time i saw this music video on MTV!  Isn't it great how certain music videos have a lasting impression?  Like the first time i saw "Thriller" or "Like A Virgin"!  Of course those two songs have a higher standard in my book than Tony Basil's "Mickey", but since the video was so ridiculous it will forever stick out in my mind!

The "Mickey" music video is still said to be one of MTV's most popular early videos from when the station hit first aired.  The cheerleading uniform that Basil wears is actually her real cheerleading uniform from Las Vegas High School, where she graduated.

If you know me well at all you should have already guessed that my love for this song stems from its easy clapping and stomping beats..... obviously.  I'm instantly thrown back to me dancing infront of the TV as a little kid watching all the new VH1 and MTV music videos, I  miss those days!

So here's a little pep for your Tuesday!

Lady Sings The Blues! Billie Holiday - I'll Be Seeing You

Remember in the 90's when Clueless was your favorite movie?  Well maybe not yours but defintely mine!!! I watched that over and over!!!!  Every time i listen to Billie Holiday i'm reminded of the scene where Cher thinks Billie Holiday is a man!  "Do you like Billie Holiday?"  "O, I love him!"  HaHaha makes me laugh every time!!

Today's Throwback Thursday is Billie Holiday's "I'll Be Seeing You."  Probably one of my top favorites from her.  No one in the world can sound like her!  Her voice is so smooth and soft, a lady who can defintely sing the blues! I could listen to it all day,  puts me in a relaxed  mood making me wish i was transported back to the 40's!

While deciding on this song for today, i thought back to when it was used in the dancing scene from The Notebook.  Awesome movie scene and hands down an amazing movie!!!  Where's my Noah?! I think i have to go home and watch it tonight!  It's been too long!!!

I need a time machine that will send me to different musical era's!  Just to go to a party, hang out for a day, anything!  Well, a girl can dream right?!  Such a romantic song for the hopeless romantic in me forever! oye... lol

It's A Girl Thing..... Robyn - Dancing On My Own

I've recently found a new show to watch now that it's become my most dreaded time of year, the time when all my TV shows end for the summer....  Girls on HBO is yes a little bit strange and sometimes a bit too much truth of my genreations relationship games lol, but i can't seem to stop watching.

Hannah, the main character, is in a way trying to find herself after graduating college and entering the real world.  A funny/strange journey of her and her friends and their many distorted relationships.

While watching an episode the other night, Hannah finds herself a bit depressed with weird boy troubles.  The end scene is of her in her room trying to decide what to tweet.  She's listening to a sappy love song and as she's trying to decide what to tweet, she changes the song.  The song that comes on is the one above, "Dancing On My Own" by Robyn.  Slowly Hannah starts to move, she finally tweets something and then starts to dance to cheer herself up.  I love when a song can do that!  Here you are, depressed, angry, whatever and then a song comes on that just kinda speaks to you and starts to make you forget what was bothering you.  Dancing becomes your remedy!  Guys... it's a girl thing... you woudln't understand! HaHa

I loved Robyn when i was younger, knowing that she can come back years later and can still give me something to dance to is awesome!  Dance yourself into a better mood!!!

A Suprising Twist! John Mayer - Shadow Days

Oooo John Mayer, you  never stop suprising me!!!  Pop to Rock, back to Pop, then to a Classic Blues/Rock!

I was excited to hear that Mayer was coming out with his 5th album, anticipating for months now!!  Even with all his media crazed bullshit, i will always say that i have loved and will love everything he comes out with.  I know a lot of people cut him down and out with all that's been happening media wise but you do have to admit that the boy's extremely talented!

Growing up as a child listening to CSNY and Neil Young, i'd say i've grown accustom and maybe a bit partial to the "Classic Rock/Blues" genre.  Good old rock 'n' roll has always been my favorite.  I always say that they don't make music like they used to...and well they don't!!  So you could expect my delight when this album reminds me of old CSNY, Allman Brothers and a lil After The Gold Rush of Neil Young!!

I found out that an added bonus of David Crosby and Graham Nash harmonizing on the track "Born and Raised."  How aswesome is that??!!  There is not one song that i would skip over on Born and Raised!!

"Shadow Days"  Featured above is the new single but there is everything from your Country type rock (Allman Brothers style) "Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey" to your slower ballad of pure cuteness (Love Is A Verb....Wedding Song for girls across the nation!)  Let the over playing of this album begin! Till i'm sick of it that is...

A Perfect Little Weekend! The Black Keys - Gold On The Ceiling

What a great way to spend the weekend... with The Black Keys!  This Saturday I took my first adventure down to Atlantic City to catch The Black Keys concert at the Revel!  They were amazing live!!  I already wouldn't mind becoming a groupie to follow them from concert to concert!

The song above is off their latest album El Camino, it's called "Gold On The Ceiling."  Some friends that came to the concert had never heard of the Black Keys and were not too sure if they were diggin' their music.... I told them to give it a chance because they are such a great live band!  Well needless to say, they loved them!!  My musical genius shown through again! lol

I've also included a couple of photos from the fun night we had! Plus my own little clip!!

RIP Queen of Disco....The Donna Summer Special - Bad Girls

Today's Throwback Thursday is short and sweet, dedicated to The one and only Queen of Disco, Donna Summer.  Sadly, Summers passed away today at the age of 63.  A pure talent of the disco age with hits like "Hot Stuff", "Last Dance" and my personal favorite featured today "Bad Girls."

Summers will defintely be missed and so will her funky music! HaHa
P.S. this video is crazy amazing!!!  Boy did the girl have some style! Check out those shades!

Yaaayy Joe B!!!! Joe Bonamassa - Further on up the Road (Featuring Eric Clapton)

I fully believe that this man has magic fingers!  Last night I went to see Joe Bonamassa with my father at Count Basie! (Or as we joke around and call him "Joe B") Such a privilege to see such great talent.... I would even put him on the same lines as Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page.  The way he plays is unbelivable!!!

The whole time during the show we kept looking at each other saying, "how is he doing that??!!"  It literally sounds like a five piece band coming out of his 1 guitar!  As Joe was greeting the crowd, he had said how after coming out with 13 albums he has yet to have a hit song!  I couldn't believe it!! Someone with that type of talent starting at the age of 12 when he opened for BB King!

Bonamassa said the first song he learned to play in full was "Further On Up The Road."  He got to play that song along with a long time idle, Eric Clapton at The Royal Albert Hall.  That video id featured above, along with my own video from last night of his acoustic guitar solo!  Guess what Joe ended the concert with last night.... Whole Lotta Love!  If anyone was meant to play Zeppelin or atleast try to replicate Page, he's the man to do it!

Let Joe B give you an education in Blues and Rock 'n' Roll!!

Song Of The Weekend! Talking Heads - This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)

Song of the weekend? Yea.. it consisted of this one on repeat!  I don't know if any of you do this but sometimes when i discover or rediscover a song i like to listen to it non-stop!  I can pretty  much keep it on repeat and not get sick of it.... weird i know.

My weekend melody was "This Must Be The Place" by Talking Heads.  What a great band they are!! Yes, very strange indeed but super talented!!  This song has such an 80's funky beat that;s just addicting.  I don't think i've really disliked anything they've put out!  The album is entitled Speaking In Tongues and it has so many awesome tracks!
  1. Burning Down The House *****
  2. Making Flippy Floppy
  3. Girlfriend Is Better ***
  4. Slippery People ****
  5. I Get Wild/Wild Gravity
  6. Swamp **
  7. Moon Rocks ***
  8. Pull Up The Roots ***
  9. This Must Be The Place *****
As true Talking Heads style, I can't really figure out what is happening in this music video... maybe it's supposed to remain a mystery!

Maverick & Goose All The Way!! BERLIN - Take My Breath Away

If you are a fellow Top Gun lover like myself, you will definitely appreciate today's pick!  Glee did a version of this song the other night in their prom episode and i thought, "ooo the song from Top Gun! I love this song!"  For sure an appropriate choice for today's Throwback Thursday!

"Take My Breath Away" by the group Berlin off their album Count Three & Pray was an 80's smash hit!  I'm sure it helped that it was the title "love track" from the popular 1986 cult classic, Top Gun.  oo the days when Tom Cruise wasn't weird and creepy yet...OOO Maverick and Goose! A classic I watch regularly.

Yes the song is cheesy and full of every couple's wedding song glory, but who dosn't love it?!? Even just a little??!!  The music video showing scenes from the movie is my favorite part!!!  Take a trip down 80's memory lane and enjoy!

Makes Ya Wanna Throw A Party! Neon Trees - Moving In The Dark Lyrics

Ok... so today's video is kind of a bummer, well atleast i think so!  I couldn't find a decent video for this awesome tune!!! Well friends, this is gonna have to do cuz i'm diggin' this song today!!

I fell in love with Neon Trees with a song that most of you would recognize..."Animal" which is off their debut album Habits.  A great mix of indie rock with and old new wave sound!  The kind of music that makes you get up and dance, maybe even wanna throw a party, get crazy! lol.
More and more i find myself becoming an avid fan of that dance-rock genre of music... does this mean i'm growing up a bit musically?! One will never know for certain!

Anyway... Neon Trees new album entitled Picture Show, has a great energetic, fun feel to it!  My favorite song so far is "Moving In The Dark" (which i've featured above for your listening pleasure!), but "Everrybody Talks" is pretty sweet as well.  So check out this album and don't miss out on some of my other favorites....

No More Junk Food!!! AHHH INXS - New Sensation

Starting today with a new effort of eating a lot better than i have been and maybe taking a run on a more regular occasion.... this song has defintely been getting me in the mood, the mood to do just that!

Lately when i do go for a run i love running to this song...like literally i keep it on repeat! HaHa An upbeat 80's classic from the Austrailian band INXS (who dosn't love them?!), the song is called "New Sensation."  So if anyone else needs something to put them in a positive energetic mood, or even a laugh at this music video with the great ponytail and awesome 80's visual effects.  This is for YOU today!  Get a New Sensation to get healthy, be happy and get reafy for Summer!

A Rosie Palm, That Is..... Jackson Browne - Rosie

O Jackson Browne... how clever of you!
Most people don't know this, and if you're an avid Jackson Browne fan like myself i was shocked to find out the certain meaning to this very song!

The song is off Browne's live album Running On Empty, "Rosie" or as most people refer to it "Another Great Song About Masturbation."  I loved the song from the first time i heard it while wearing out my copy of this live album. Later in life when my mother told me what it was really about, I couldn't believe it!  I swore she was lying, trying to trick me!  NOPE, once i studied the lyrics i learned she was telling the straight up truth!!

The song was recorded backstage in '77 at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.  Browne's great way of describing the band's sound mixer falling in love with a girl he meets at a concert.  Needles to say the girl falls for the drummer and leaves him behind...but he still has good ole Rosie (Rosie Palm, that is)!! Haha.  Listen to the lyrics of the song if you have no idea what i'm talking about!  Such a classic!!! I love this song!!
No favorites to this album because I love every single song, defintely one of my top ten favorite live albums!!

Happy Friday!

Who Knows.....The Who - Eminence Front

Ah yes, I can't even put into words how much I love todays Throwback Thursday!!  Everyone's gotta love The Who, but most people love their early stuff.  Who wouldn't with such greatness as My Generation and without a doubt Tommy!!! And, I totally agree to this statement but my favorite Who song comes off the groups 10th studio album!  Yes TENTH.
Now before you go and say, "The 80's Who...really"  just wait a second and listen to this song!  "Eminence Front" off the album It's Hard, is such a kick ass song!!!

I grew up watching Miami Vice.... My parents loved the show and the night i was born, it was actually playing on the hospital TV! haha.  The first time i ever heard this song i instantly thought of Miami Vice.  It defintely should have been the theme song, well atleast the very begining of it with whatever that 80's techno beat is!

I must say that the album version of this song is much better and it's ten times better when played extremely loud, in your car, windows down!  Who knows what the songs even about... Pete Townshend can't even explain it - he just says, It's Hard.  (Get it?!?!) LOL.

A Tasty Treat! Norah Jones - Happy Pills

I've always classified Norah Jones with a certain "type" of music.  You know.... the slow, downtempo, easy listening that always sounds the same. Great but always the same, but that's like hating Ice Cream for being so delicious every time you eat it!

Her brand new fifth album is a refreshing new twist on the Norah we all grew to love over the years!  The album is called Little Broken Hearts and the new favorite song featured above is "Happy Pills."  A type of bubblegum tune that has a uptempo, feel good beat.  Reminds me a little of The Pretenders "Brass In Pocket" and definitely not in a bad way!!  Songwriting/collaberating with Brian Burton (Danger Mouse) has given her sound a little more bluesy rock 'n' roll this time around!  This new album is surely packed with goodies! (don't worry good ole Norah fans, there is still that traditional Norah Jones sound still in there!)

  1. Good Morning **:)
  2. Say Goodbye ***:)
  3. Little Broken Hearts **:)
  4. She's 22 **:)
  5. Take It Back **:)                                        *Check these out!!!!!

A Great Musical Find! Bon Iver - I Can't Make You Love Me/Nick of Time

So deciding that I wanted a  Bon Iver song to post on this melancholy monday I came across this....  It's Bon Iver (Justin Vernon) doing "I Can't Make You Love Me/Nick Of Time" by the amazing Bonnie Raitt.  Once i found this and gave it a listen i just had to post it!  This man is super talented!!!

This slow piano version of the song is georgeous!  So if you've got the blues or even the monday blues, this is the perfect song to listen to today!  Beautifully done Sir!  Justin Vernon's voice is amazing, such a talent!!

And This One Goes Out To..... Mark Morrison - Return Of The Mack

Today's little jammer is a very special request!  This will be the first time i've blogged a request, and i have to admit i'm feeling very special and truly excited!!  The song is "Return Of The Mack" by Mark Morrison.  This one goes out to my "frousin" (as we like to call each other), Alison!

I don't really remember how, there probably was a couple of drinks involved but somehow Alison brought up the song and asked if i remembered it.  She sang a little verse to spark my memory and of course i remembered!!! Who forgets a song like this?!? Instant classic!

This old goodie goes all the way back to 1996!  R&B at its finest!  Needless to say Mark Morrison didn't last too long, word is that he seemed to be getting into to much trouble with the law.... eek!  Well this song is defintely good for a laugh and took Alison and I for a trip down memory lane when we used to listen to this song.  In all honesty it's still pretty catchy! Puttin' this one on my itunes!

Enjoy Friday with this groovy tune!!! I know that it will now be stuck in my head for the rest of the day!
Thanks Alison!!

Give The Newbies A Chance! Penguin Prison - Golden Train

I'm Back!!!  I've been so crazy busy lately that i haven't even had a free minute to keep up with my blogging!  OO how i've missed it so!
Well..... last night I got to see Miike Snow in NYC at Terminal 5!!  The venue was amazing and  Miike Snow was defintely well worth the trip!  I Love Them!!!  I feel horrible for saying this because i believe you need to give new music a chance but i had never heard of the opening act before and had no real desire to see them.
Boy am i glad that we arrived early!  (open mouth, insert foot!) Penguin Prison is their name and they were soo much fun!  The song above is what they started off with and we defintely started dancing (along with some fist pumping, hand clapping and good ole foot stomping!) right from the start all the way through!
The song is called "Golden Train" off their self titled album!  If you find yourself diggin' this tune please check out the rest of this album they are such a fun band and great to see live!!
I plan on buying this album as soon as i get home!!!!

Yes i know it's Throwback Thursday but i just couldn't resist!

"Stir It Up" off the album Catch A Fire, this song was written by Marley to his wife Rita...how adorable!  Catch A Fire is such an unbelivably amazing album, one of Bob's best!!!  From start to finish it puts you in that summer/vacation state of mind!!!

I'll be honest, It is unseasonably way to early to be listeing to Bob but i couldn't help it!! It's been so warm lately!  So let your Natty Dreads fly free and sit back to enjoy!

Start Me Up And Let The Countdown Begin!!! Rolling Stones - Start Me Up

100 Days and Counting!!!! My super cool, best friend of a cousin invited me along to watch her husband compete in the London 2012 Olympics! (How awesome is that?!?!) I'm known to be a bit of a plan-a-holic....so as i'm buying travel books and planning fun adventures to have while over in Great Britain, i'm getting super pumped at what a once in a lifetime experience i'm about to have in just a couple of short months!

Today's song got me in the London mood today!  Might help that it's sung by an amazing British Rock Band!  The Rolling Stone's "Start me Up" off the album Tattoo You is simply a classic, pretty much anything by them is.  Fun Rock 'n' Roll at its best.  If this isn't the example of a truly great and versatile rock band then i don't know what is!!  The Stones have been proving that to all of us since 1962, they have some definite staying power.  This album is packed with goodies including, "Start me Up", "Hang Fire", and "Little T&A."

As Ron Burgundy would say, "I'll take you to foggy London town, cause you're my little gentleman.!"
